Successful controls upgrade at TNT Innight during operation

Vanderlande Industries performed a successful upgrade of controls hardware and software for the material handling system of TNT Innight in Nieuwegein, The Netherlands.

According to the provided life cycle plan for TNT Innight and in close consult with Vanderlande Industries, it was strongly advised to upgrade the part of the VITAL software suite which is responsible for the controls of the POSISORTER. To maintain the availability and serviceability of the system new hardware and software were installed.

An essential requirement for TNT Innight was that the migration would not disturb the operation. In order to keep that promise, testing was done on emulation models and in Vanderlande’s own Innovation Centre in Veghel, the Netherlands. During the migration testing was repeated and risks were successfully mitigated. The upgraded VITAL software suite has gone live without any disturbances to TNT Innight’s operational process.

During the test phase a couple of challenges came up that Vanderlande Industries solved professionally, without any noticeable process disturbance. The involvement of both parties was enormous.”

TNT Innight is specialised in night express services. Shipments are collected at the end of the work day and are delivered that same night before 07.00 o’clock. The central distribution centre in Nieuwegein, The Netherlands, is the basis for TNT Innight’s service. Here the shipments are (mostly automatically) sorted by route. After sorting, the transport to strategically placed depots is done and from there refined distribution takes place for the individual delivery locations. TNT Innight offers this service not only in The Netherlands, but also in many other European countries.
