New sorter for UPS centre in Diegem, Belgian
Vanderlande Industries has replaced the sorter at the UPS sorting centre in Diegem, Belgium. The existing sorters were delivered almost ten years ago by a different supplier and had to be replaced because of excessive wear.
UPS was able to continue sorting manually during the installation work, with some small system changes, because the part of the system before the sorter remained in operation. Good project management together with a big effort by the Belgian Vanderlande team meant that UPS was able to put the new sorter into service a month earlier than scheduled.
The new sorter has now been in trouble-free operation for six months since the installation, completely solving the increasingly frequent problems that UPS was experiencing with the former system. Thanks to this positive experience, UPS has now decided to award the modification of the existing transport system to Vanderlande Industries. This will include replacement of conveyors, followed by migration of the present S5 software to a Vanderlande Industries standard FSC (Flow Systems Controller) control system including VITAL.SCADA.
